Balrogs were powerful and ancient entities. They were the deadliest servants of served Morgoth, and were beings of smoke, shadow, and flame that even the Elves feared.[1]
Official Description[]
Malevolent beings of shadow and flame from the Elder Days… some say that Balrogs still hide in the deep parts of Middle-earth…
History[]
An Elven warrior was said to have fought a Balrog on the Misty Mountains, defending a tree that had been infused with the light of the last Simaril.[2]
During the Second Age, a Balrog lived deep under the Misty Mountains, in the deep mine where the Dwarves discovered a new ore, Mithril.
Characteristics[]
Standing at least twice the height of a man, Balrogs had yellow eyes and claws, and were typically armed with swords and whips.
Spirts of fire, they blazed as living infernos, their maws and manes flaring when their ire was roused. They also could make small flammable objects near them spontaneously combust.[3]
