The Rings of Power Wiki

Círdan is one of the main characters in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, debuting in Season Two. A famed shipwright, Círdan was master of the Grey Havens and considered to be one of the wisest Elves. His ships bore Elves across the Sundering Seas on their journey from Middle-earth to the Undying Lands of Valinor. Círdan is portrayed by Ben Daniels, first appearing in the episode "Elven Kings Under the Sky".

Biography[]

Círdan resided in the Grey Havens, overseeing the construction of vessels, including those meant to bear Elves across the Sundering Seas to Valinor. The oldest and wisest Elf in Middle-earth, Elrond sought out Círdan while in possession of the Elven Rings of Power. Elrond believed they should be destroyed, worried about the influence of Sauron in their creation. Círdan agreed, and took a boat out into the bay, intending to drop the rings into a deep scar in the ocean. While at sea, the boat was rocked and Círdan came to look up the rings and decided that perfection no longer existed only in Valinor.[1]

Círdan returned to Lindon, just as High King Gil-galad began to announce that the Great Tree was shedding its leaves, meaning that the time of the Elves in Middle-earth was over. Círdan wore one ring, and passed the others onto Gil-galad and Galadriel. The rings regenerated the Great Tree, returning it to its glory.[1]
