"I admire all who can see into the mystery of things, who can divine from the plainness of what is, the beauty of what could be."

Official Description[]
Celebrimbor is a visionary artisan and Elf-lord of Eregion who has a plan to undertake a great work that will transform Middle-earth into a place whose beauty can rival even the grace of Valinor itself.
Biography[]
Lord Celebrimbor is the Elf-lord of Eregion,[1] and a skilled Elven-smith. He plans to undertake a great venture of singular importance. High King Gil-galad assigns his herald, Elrond, to assist Celebrimbor in his efforts.[2]
Forging the Future[]
Celebrimbor and Elrond traveled to Eregion where Celebrimbor explained his ambitions to create a magnificent forge more powerful than anything ever created. He had a limited time frame and needed Elrond's help to find a way to create it in haste. Elrond suggested they form a partnership with the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm. They navigated through the Misty Mountains to Khazad-dûm, though they didn't get the welcome Elrond expected. He sent Lord Celebrimbor back to Eregion while he spoke to the Dwarves.[3]
Elrond's alliance with Dwarves was successful, and ground broke on Celebrimbor's forge. He was pleasantly surprised by Elrond's similarities to Eärendil. Lord Celebrimbor also admitted he was apprehensive of Prince Durin IV, but also worried the Prince was avoiding him. To bridge the gap between the Dwarves and Elves, Elrond invited Prince Durin to Lindon.[4]
Their time in Lindon was not without difficulty, as Durin butted heads with High King Gil-galad, which forced Elrond to play mediator. Meanwhile, he trusted Celebrimbor to run tests on the mithril ore which proved Durin's theory of invincibility correct. Gil-galad admitted to Elrond that he sent him to Eregion because of his history with the Dwarves.[5]
Celebrimbor apologized to Elrond for not telling him of the Great Tree's decay earlier. He had begged the High King to allow Elrond into their confidence sooner, but Gil-galad refused. Elrond confirmed with Celebrimbor that the mithril was their only salvation. Celebrimbor tested it under and duress and nothing diminished its light. If they could procure vast quantities quickly, they could saturate every last Elf in the light of the Valar once more and save their race. Elrond felt torn between his oath to his friend, or saving his people. Celebrimbor was there the night Elrond's father, a mortal man, set sail to convince the very Gods to come to war in their air. He heard Elrond's mother plead with his father to not go and implore why it must be him. His father had said it was because he was the only one who could do it.[5]
Elrond attempted to convince King Durin III to allow them to excavate more mithril, but he was turned away.[6] He returned to Lindon with Lord Celebrimbor, where they spoke of how Gil-galad's expectation of them to save all Elvendom. They were unexpectedly joined by Galadriel and her friend, an injured Southlander named Halbrand.[7]
Once Halbrand was healed, he found his way to Celebrimbor's workshop where he met the resigned Elvensmith. The Southlander suggested he mix other ores with the mithril to strengthen it, making it stretch further, and the idea propelled a new path for the Elves. While the High King initially refused to allow them any additional time, Elrond convinced him otherwise. Celebrimbor, Halbrand, and the Elvensmiths began to create a power over the flesh.[7]
As the months passed, Celebrimbor grew closer to his creation. One day, Halbrand unexpectedly left Lindon and Galadriel warned her friends to never deal with the man again, as he was not to be trusted. She told Celebrimbor to forge three artifacts and he understood as one will corrupt, two will divide, but with three, there is balance. The powers they forged must be for the Elves alone, untouched by other hands. With the keen eyes of Elrond and Galadriel looking on, Celebrimbor crafted the Elven Rings of Power.[7]
As Celebrimbor awaited news from Lindon about the effect of the rings, he oversaw construction of a new forge in Eregion. An Elven-smith, Mirdania, complimented the new forge and told him that a messenger had arrived, but not the one expected; Halbrand from the Southlands had returned. Remembering his promise to Galadriel, Celebrimbor was uneasy with his arrival.[8]
