The Rings of Power Wiki

The Dark Lord's Crown was forged and worn by Morgoth during the Great War. A symbol of his authority and strength, Sauron attempted to position himself as the new leader of the Orcs by being crowned with it.

Official Description[]

Originally worn by Morgoth, and later by Sauron, this crown was forged by Morgoth himself, the crown adorns the head of the Dark Lord.

History[]

Morgoth forged for himself a Dark Crown, a circlet of iron with three sharp spikes rising up from it.[1] After Morgoth's defeat in the Great War, the Crown came into the possession of Sauron, his lieutenant. At the dawn of the Second Age, at the fortress of Dúrnost, Sauron attempted to have himself crowned as the leader of the Orcs and the successor to Morgoth. He was stabbed with the crown by Adar. The magic of the crown left Sauron weak, and this wound combined with many other hurts inflicted by the revolting Orcs was able to destroy his physical body.[2]

Those pierced by the points of the crown were left badly weakened,[2] their very spirit drained into death unless healed by magic.[3]
