The Rings of Power Wiki

Diarmid is a minor character in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. A Man of the Southlands, he is a refugee fleeing from the Orcs. Diarmid is portrayed by Nicholas Woodeson, appearing in the Season Two episode "Elven Kings Under the Sky".

History[]

Diarmid's family previously served the kings of the Southlands, but the line had died out long ago. Diarmid kept a necklace with the royal heraldry on it to remind himself that the fate of peoples were never certain, and even the most powerful could see their fortunes turn. As an army of Orcs began pillaging the Southlands, Diarmid and others began to flee, heading for the coast with the intention of taking a boat across the sea to a better place. On the road, Diarmid encountered Halbrand travelling towards the Southlands. He warned him that only death lay that way, and offered for Halbrand to join them as they sought refuge.[1]

Eventually boarding a ship, Diarmid asked Halbrand about his nightmares. Halbrand told him that he had done great evil in the past, but Diarmid assured him that he could seek forgiveness and that to be a good man, he had to make the choice every day until it became part of his nature. At that moment, the boat was attacked by a terrifying sea creature. Diarmid was trapped beneath a fallen beam and called to Halbrand for help. Halbrand snatched the necklace from Diarmid and left the man to die.[1]
