Prince Durin’s wife and future queen, a warm and loving dwarf with a special ability to sing to the mountain to locate where certain ores reside, and where it's safe to dig. She will do anything for the future of her people – which sometimes means pushing her husband to do what they both know is right.
History[]
Early Years[]
It appears that Disa did not have a great relationship with her father. However, the specifics of their relationship are unknown.[1]
Disa was a powerful resonator from Khazad-dûm. She met the crowned Prince Durin IV who frequently visited the mines to gain her affection. It took weeks before he got the courage to court her properly. They eventually married, with her to become the Princess and future Queen. They welcomed two children, Gerda and Gamli.[2]
Alliance with Elrond[]
Disa and Durin were visited by his estranged friend Elrond the Elf. She was elated to meet him and hugged him tightly. She declared he would stay for dinner, against Durin's protest. She told Elrond to make himself comfortable. As they sat for dinner, the couple told Elrond of the first time they met, which made Elrond happy for his old friend, though Durin continued to snipe at him. Disa wanted to enjoy the time they had together now. The men argued until Disa intervened in the hopes they could mend their issues. Elrond remarked on how Durin planted the sapling, a seedling of the Elves Great Tree in Lindon, which Disa claimed Durin cared for like another child. Elrond rose to leave and thanked Disa for her hospitality. She shot her husband a stern look, and he finally caved to tell Elrond to sit so he could decide whether to give the proposal to his father or toss it.[2]
She was pleased when Durin and Elrond reached a mutual agreement, though she disliked the lies she had to tell Elrond to keep him away from their secret mithril mines. Their conversation was overheard by the Elf, who used his enhanced hearing to eavesdrop. Elrond visited the mines and learned the truth from Durin, moments before the shaft collapsed with Dwarves inside.[3]
Disa resonated with her group in a plea to the rock to release the miners alive. She thanked Elrond for saving her husband, as she couldn't stop thinking that Durin might have been in the shaft if he wasn't there. She apologized to him for lying, but Elrond understood her faithfulness to her husband. Durin emerged with news that all the miners were pulled out alive. His father shut down the whole vein which angered him. After the friends shared a kindred moment, Disa asked them to settle the story of how they met, which sparked a witty banter-filled story.[3]
Durin visited the Elven city of Lindon to gauge the Elves intentions. While there, he convinced Gil-galad to gift the Dwarves a table under the rouse of the material being religious. He admitted later to Elrond that he made it all up as Disa had wanted a new table for years.[4]
Durin learned the Elves were on the brink of death with their only hope of salvation being the mithril. The King refused to help the Elves as he believed their fate was sealed. Disa, in her home, took out her frustration on a hot pick. She wanted to reopen the mine themselves and force his father's hand. Durin reminded her that the King was more than his father, but also their King. Durin couldn't teach their children the will of a King should be dismissed. Disa apologized for saying the King is a fool who has lice in her beard. She hated it when Durin slags on her mother, so she won't do it to his father. Durin conceded her mother did have lice in her beard, though, he insisted it's a joke. Elrond arrived and saw their grim faces, only to realize the answer had come down against his favor. Elrond didn't say goodbye, but Namárië which means "go towards goodness". When Elrond left, Durin and Disa cried together until they saw the mithril heal a decaying leaf. Durin and Elrond decided to mine it themselves, but were caught by the king who exiled the Elf.[5]
Durin fought with his father and was seemingly disinherited as result. Disa comforted her husband over the days events. She didn't blame him, but instead, the King as he had grown too old and dim to realize this will be Durin's kingdom. It will not be his brother's or some other Dwarf-lords, but theirs, together. They would rule this mountain and all others before their time was gone. The mithril belonged to them and together, one day, they will dig.[5]
