The Rings of Power Wiki

Eärendil, also called Eärendil the Mariner, is a character in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. He was the father of Elros and Elrond, first mentioned in the Season One episode "The Great Wave".

History[]

Eärendil was a mortal Man[1] who lived during the First Age. He wed an Elven woman[1] and they had two half-Elven sons, Elrond and Elros, of the Peredhil.[2] When Morgoth threatened Middle-earth, Eärendil decided he must convince the Valar to aid in the defeat of their Great Foe. His wife pleaded with him not to go, but Eärendil believed it was his duty as he was the only one who could.[1] He single-handedly sailed the Sundering Seas to Valinor, where he convinced the Valar to join the war and vanquish Morgoth. His deeds were so great that the Valar lifted him beyond the bounds of the world to carry the Evening Star across the sky.[3] He would forever sail his ship through the sky as a sign of hope to those oppressed by evil forces.[4]

He had some magical talent, able to view things afar, such as how he foresaw that Celebrimbor's fate would one day be in Elrond's hands. Eärendil spoke of what he saw casually, as if his visions were nothing out of the ordinary.[3]
