Official Description[]

Eärien is Elendil's talented and ambitious daughter, and Isildur’s sister. Though they all share a strong bond, in a kingdom rife with complex political and social tensions, Eärien finds that her convictions may lie at odds with everyone else in her family.

History[]

Eärien is the only daughter of Sea Captain Elendil and his deceased wife. She was raised alongside her two brothers, Isildur and Anárion, in the island kingdom of Númenor. Eärien wanted to be an apprentice for the Builder's Guild, but her application was denied on her first admittance. Isildur convinced her to apply again, and she was accepted, a revelation that elated her and Elendil.[3]

Galadriel's presence in court continued to cause unrest amongst the Númenóreans, many of whom believed Númenor should not restore its connection with its Elvish ancestry. Eärien was among those skeptics. She began her apprenticeship where she befriended Kemen, the son of Chancellor Pharazôn. She was then disappointed to learn Isildur had been dismissed from the the Sea Guard, though she encouraged him to pursue his dream of traveling West. However, he felt unworthy of the venture now. As a way to win back his honor, Isildur volunteered to join the Númenórean army headed for Middle-earth to fight alongside Galadriel and save the Southlands.[4]

Eärien wanted to Chancellor Pharazôn to reconsider his support of Queen Regent Míriel's expedition, but the Chancellor was hard to reach. She begged Kemen to use his voice to sway Pharazôn in their favor. She was upset when their efforts failed and Isildur departed with the rest of the ships.[5]

In the coming weeks, King Tar-Palantir's health declined rapidly. Pharazôn called several Draftsmen to the King's deathbed to capture his visage before his demise. It is their job to forge a tomb for him granting him immortality in stone. Eärien was among those called to draw, and as she sat by the King's bed, he awakened but mistook her for a young Míriel. He warned that their people must return to the old ways or Númenor would fall. He opened the passage to his tower and instructed "Míriel" to see for herself, but not to gaze into the Palantír too long as he had done. Eärien entered the tower and discovered the seeing-stone.[6]
