"Sometimes we cannot know until we have touched the darkness."

Finrod to Galadriel.

Finrod is a minor character in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. He is the older brother of Galadriel, and they both lived together in Valinor. Finrod is portrayed by Will Fletcher, appearing in the episode "A Shadow of the Past".

Finrod journeyed to Middle-earth after the destruction of the Two Trees of Valinor to fight the forces of evil led by Morgoth. After the Dark Power's defeat, Finrod swore to track down his lieutenant, the Dark Lord Sauron. However, Sauron killed Finrod, and left a sigil carved into his flesh. Galadriel took up Finrod's dagger and swore to see her brother's task completed.

Biography[]

Finrod dwelt in Valinor with his mother and father, and his younger sister, Galadriel.[2] He was a High Elf, and part of the royal house of Finarfin.[1] He taught Galadriel how to build magically sailing ships out of paper, and strove to teach her that the most important truths were simple. When Morgoth destroyed the Two Trees of Valinor and stole the Simarils, Finrod and a legion of Elves travelled to Middle-earth across the Sundering Seas to face the Dark Lord. The war lasted centuries, but eventually Morgoth was defeated. However, one of his servants, Sauron, still endured. Finrod vowed to seek out Sauron, but the quest cost him his life. Sauron burned a Sigil into his flesh, and the symbol became a catalyst for Galadriel who vowed to finish her brother's work. She claimed his dagger as a reminder of the vow she had made.[2]
