A dagger owned by the Elf, Finrod, it was taken up by his sister Galadriel when her brother was killed.
Official Description[]
Once this blade belonged to Finrod, Galadriel’s brother, who was slain in the Elder Days. Now it is a reminder of the vow Galadriel made to eradicate the evil that took his life, and the lives of so many others dear to her.
Design[]
The dagger recounted the story of the creation of Fëanor's greatest works, the Silmarils. Gold and silver intertwine throughout the weapon, representing the Two Trees of Valinor; the gold represented Laurelin, and the silver was for Telperion. The pommel was shaped in the crown of the Two Trees, where the hilt met the blade, pearls were inset representing the Silmarils themselves.[1]
History[]
Crafted by Fëanor, the dagger was gifted to his nephew, Finrod, and served as a family heirloom.[1] The gold and silver in the dagger symbolized the Two Trees of Valinor that gave off golden and silver light in the Undying Lands in the Elder Days.[2] Finrod wielded this dagger until his death at the hands of Sauron. It was taken by his sister, Galadriel, when she took up his mission of hunting down Sauron. When Galadriel's mission was pronounced over, and she was granted the honour of travelling home to Valinor, she was stripped of her weapons and wargear, including the dagger. However, when she made the decision not to cross into Valinor, she took the dagger and dived into the waters of the Sundering Seas.[3]
