The Rings of Power Wiki

Glûg is a recurring character in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. An Orc loyal to Adar, he is one of his Lord-father's chief lieutenants. Glûg is portrayed by Robert Strange, first appearing in the Season Two episode "Elven Kings Under the Sky".

History[]

Glûg was a Orc who served in Adar's forces as he established the homeland for his children in Mordor. Glûg was present when Halbrand surrendered himself to Adar, wanting to trade the freedom of his people for knowledge of Sauron, claiming that the sorcerer was allied with Galadriel to build a weapon that would allow him to enslave the Orcs on more. Adar imprisoned Halbrand, but Glûg asked the Lord-father if it was possible for Sauron to return as they believed him to be dead. Adar assured his son that it was not possible, and that Sauron was dead.[1]

Despite this assurance, Adar freed the Southlanders and set Halbrand free to track down Sauron, who he claimed had returned in a new form. Glûg was ordered to ensure that Halbrand's every step was followed once he left their camp.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The spelling of Glûg's name is inconsistent throughout Season Two. The episode credits and X-Ray feature list the name as "Glûg," while subtitles list it as "Glüg." This article presumes that the spelling used in the episode credits is correct.
