Official Description[]

Isildur is a young man with his future already planned out for him. Soon, he will take his place at his father Elendil’s side in the Sea-Guard of Númenor. He is unsure, though, if this is the future he wants for himself, and wonders if there is some other path he might take.

History[]

Finding a Path[]

The young Númenórean Isildur was born to Captain Elendil and an unnamed woman in Númenor, having two siblings Anárion and Eärien. Their mother died in the years past and they were cared for by their father, whose love for the sea rivaled that of any interest. Isildur was an adventurous young man who often fought those around him, including a fight with the Queens guards that nearly ruined his chances to pursue any career. Elendil worked tirelessly to convince the sea-master to allow Isildur entry into the Sea-Guard program. However, Isildur struggled to fit in and often acted out of turn against his superiors orders.[1]

He sabotaged his chances with the Sea Guard and was thrown out of the crew alongside his best friends Ontamo and Valandil, despite them not being involved in Isil's decision. They felt Isildur had thrown way an opportunity he didn't want while Ontamo and Valandil had to fight for it. Eärien was equally disappointed to learn of his dismissal, but though he may have a chance to travel West as he always dream. He not longer felt worthy as he ruined his friends lives and shamed their family name. His chance at redemption came quick as Queen Míriel declared that Númenor would aid Galadriel in the war in the Southlands and Isildur volunteered to join the ranks.[2]

Elendil refused to allow him passage on the ship because he had no qualifications above the other volunteers, and had squandered his chances with every guild and guard. Desperate to earn his place, Isildur turned to his a recently promoted Valandil for help, but was turned away as Valandil couldn't stake his name on giving Isildur something he might abandon. In a final act of desperation, Isildur stowed away on the ship. He was discovered in the middle of the night by Kemen, who had boarded to sabotage the expedition with arson. They fought and the ship exploded, though Isildur rescued an unconscious Kemen moments before it went up in flames. Elendil believed his son's story and brought him on the expedition - as the stable boy.[3]

Expedition in the Southlands[]

Isildur looked down upon his station as a stable sweep as he did not feel it was important to the expedition. Galadriel encouraged him mot to lose heart, but rather, maintain his humility. He only left Númenor to get away from the island, as he didn't view it as the real Númenor. She assured him the real Númenor did exist once, and assured him it existed still, if only in the heart of the lowliest stable sweep.[4]

The army made landfall on the banks of Anduin and rode across Ephel Arnen to the Southlands. The arrived at Tirharad during the first light of dawn, where they fought valiantly against the Orc army that cornered the Southlanders. Isildur wasn't involved in much of the fighting, as he and Berek were remanded to the mountains to serve as the last wave of soldiers. Several Orcs ambushed Elendil, so Míriel permitted Isildur to enter the fight, where he eagerly reunited with his father, who was unharmed by the attack thanks to an intervening Halbrand.[4]

With daybreak having forced the Orcs back into hiding, the Númenóreans sat for food and conversation with the surviving Southlanders. Isil, however, tried to soothe an unusually bereft Berek, whom only calmed with the Sindarian words from Elendil. He promised to teach his son how to connect with the innermost feelings of horse. Their moment of peace was shattered when the volcano Orodruin erupted, laying ash and waste to the Southlands.[4] After he recovered from the blast, Isildur leapt to service and helped several to safety. A family was trapped in a burned home, so he aided his comrades in her rescue. He kept a beam from falling until everyone was safe, but before he could escape, the building collapsed. He was believed to have perished in the structure.[5]

Elendil was heartbroken over his son's death and became calloused toward Galadriel. He regretted the day their paths crossed, and wanted only to return to Númenor. Berek, however, would not cooperate with any of the soldiers and refused to board the ships. Elendil understood that the steeds loyalty lay with his deceased owner, so he freed the horse, who galloped into the woods.[5]
