Gandalf, one of the Istari on Middle-earth, uses his power
The Istari, or Wizards, are powerful beings sent to Middle-earth by the Valar. Taking the form of elderly men, they were tasked with guiding and advising the realms of Middle-earth in their struggle against Sauron and the dark forces he has arrayed about himself. Although known for their wisdom and counsel, the Istari were among the most powerful individuals to walk Middle-earth and commanded powerful magic.
During the Second Age, one of the Istari, known as "The Stranger", was sent to Middle-earth. He was found and befriended by the Harfoots, chief among them Nori Brandyfoot. Initially he had forgotten who and what he was, but through his friendship with the Harfoots, and an encounter with Sauron-seeking Mystics, The Stranger began to learn of his origins.
Description[]
Istar meant "wise one" or "wizard" in the common tongue.[1] The Stranger, a being who fell from the sky,[2] was one of the Istar.[1]
