Queen-Regent Míriel is one of the main characters of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. She is ruler of the island nation of Númenor. Míriel is portrayed by Cynthia Addai-Robinson, first appearing in the episode "Adar". The daughter of the King, Tar-Palantir, Míriel has the best interests of her people at heart, but she also desires to continue her father's work in reconnecting with their Elven heritage. The arrival of Galadriel on Númenor gives her that chance, and she leads a force of Númenóreans to assist the beleaguered Men of the Southlands.
Official Description[]
Her aging father still officially holds the sceptre of the island realm of Númenor, but Queen-Regent Míriel is its acting ruler. Though the kingdom is at the height of its wealth and power, Míriel bears the burden of a terrible secret that looms over her entire people.
History[]
Míriel is the daughter of the ruling King of Númenor, whose allegiance to the Elves led to his removal from the throne. Míriel subsequently rose to power as the Queen-Regent, where she kept the people's desire to break away from their Elvish ancestry.[1]
One day, Elendil, the captain of a Sea Guard, brought the Elf Galadriel and Man Halbrand to Númenor after he found them stranded at sea. The people of court were shocked to see an Elf in their midst, and made their disdain for her clear as they mocked her many titles. Míriel allowed Galadriel to stay at the encouragement of Halbrand, but restricted the Elf to palace grounds. They argued until Míriel made it clear that she would impose any ruling she desired.[1]
Míriel and Chancellor Pharazôn discussed Elendil and spoke to him about his familial ties to the Elves. He insisted his loyalty lay with Númenor, so the Queen-Regent tasked him with looking over Galadriel to keep her out of trouble. Míriel visited her father in his tower that evening to tell him the Elf had arrived.[1]
