The Rings of Power Wiki

Men, also called humans, were a race living on Middle-earth.

History[]

During the First Age, the Men of Middle-earth were split. Some supported Morgoth, while others aligned with the Elves. This time was considered the Dark Days by some, and records of the era in Middle-earth were sparse.[1] The Men of the Southlands were especially strong in their support for Morgoth, leading the Elves to institute a centuries-long watch on the area, guarding against the return of darkness.[2]

Characteristics[]

Men are an ordinary species with no remarkable defining characteristics to set them apart, as they do not bear pointed ears like the Elves or stout figures of the Dwarves. Their life span is rather average, with disease, famine, and battle ending their lives. The talents of men range widely, with some being hunters, fighters, or healers. They have a deep capacity for community and loyalty.

Men have always ranked among the servants of the Dark Powers, easy to corrupt or dominate through pride.[3] However, they also rank among the loyalists of the Elves and the Elven ways, seeing the guidance and wisdom their immortal companions have to offer.[4]
