Orodruin was a volcano located with the Southlands. It was north of the villages of Hordern and Tirharad, and the watchtower as Ostirith.[2] The ashes that spew from the volcano blanket the sky, but also darken hearts.[3]
History[]
Eruption[]

After the Battle for Tirharad, Waldreg brought the hilt to the fallen tower of Ostirith. He navigated the rubble to find the key hole, then activated the hilt with his blood. He inserted the sword and twisted the key to unlock the surface below. The dam lowered and plummeted water into the dried ravines. The tunnels previously sealed by the Southlanders erupted with water. The water from the dam filled the tunnels carved by the Orcs, flowed through Tirharad and the regions of the Southlands until it poured into the volcanic pits of Orodruin. The collision caused the volcano to erupt, unleashing a seismic blast. The Orcs turned against their captors as giant pieces of volcanic rock, lava, and ash rained down on the village. As panic ensued, Galadriel stood still amongst the chaos. A wave of ash, fire, and lava rushed toward her. She closed her eyes and seemingly accepted her fate.[4]
Aftermath[]
The volcanic eruption reached as far as Rhovanion, where a piece of rock had impacted the Grove where the Harfoot community migrated. This set them back in their harvest, as they migrated to the Grove seasonally for its orchard and bountiful fruits. Luckily, the Stranger was able to restore the beauty of the orchard with his magic.[5]
