"Have you hear of him lad? Have you heard of Sauron?

Waldreg to Theo.

Waldreg is a recurring character in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. He is a Man living in Tirharad and a secret servant of Sauron. Waldreg is portrayed by Geoff Morrell, first appearing in the episode "A Shadow of the Past".

Biography[]

Waldreg was a man living in the village of Tirharad in the Southlands. He ran the local tavern, and kept a friendly demeanour with the Elves who visited the village, such as Arondir. However, Waldreg had a secret, maintaining a secret stash of items under a floorboard in his barn, including a broken sword hilt with a strange sigil etched into it.[1]

Serving Adar[]

With Adar and his forces in control of the newly renamed land of Mordor, Waldreg was placed in a position of authority over the other Men. He oversaw the stream of Men being brought to proclaim their fealty to Adar as the new ruler of the land, telling that that if they worked hard, they would be fed well. When Halbrand willingly surrendered himself in an effort to parlay for the lives of the Southlanders in exchange for information on Sauron, Adar had him imprisoned. Waldreg was responsible for locking him up, mocking him and striking him as he did so. Halbrand told Waldreg that once Adar let him go, he would kill him.[2]

Halbrand was brought before Adar, and Adar revealed that he had freed the Southlanders. Halbrand told him that Sauron was allying with the Elves in an effort to create a weapon that would allow him to bring the peoples of Middle-earth, including the Orcs, under his dominion. Waldreg made him swear allegiance to Adar before he was set free to find Sauron. As Halbrand departed, Waldreg returned to the cell that Halbrand was in, which had been shared with a chained-up Warg. Waldreg found that the Warg was no longer restrained, and it attacked and killed him.[2]
