West-gate

The West-gate to Khazad-dûm

The West-gate is one of the main entrances to the Dwarven kingdom of Khazad-dûm. Located on the western slopes of the Misty Mountains, the West-gate was the first point of entry for visitors from the nearby Elven realm of Eregion. Elrond and Celebrimbor travelled to the West-gate to talk with the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm about their assistance in constructing a large workshop on Eregion. The gate itself was inscribed with a runic language known as Cirth, and guarded on the inside by Dwarven warriors.

Description[]

The door is inscribed in Cirth, a runic language originally conceived of by the Elves. The language was adapted by the Dwarves to carve into stone.[1]
